Make.com Tutorial for Beginners: A Non-Technical Introduction!

All right, all right, all right. I know, I know what you’re thinking. Dimitri, what are you making this video for? Well, I bet some of you out there don’t know how to do automation things, right? Don’t worry; this Make.com tutorial for beginners is just for you.

I’m a tutorial guy, who comes to the YouTubes and make videos, and today, I’m going to show you how to get started using Make.com. Now you might likely wonder, what is Make.com? If you’re not familiar with automation, you’re about to have an exciting ride. You can do some really cool stuff with no-code tools like Make.com. Automations can save you from tedious, repetitive tasks, freeing up more time for things that matter more!

What’s Make.com All About?

Make.com lets you get started absolutely for free! Your world broadens when you start using Make.com. It’s a platform to help you automate basic to advanced tasks. In this blog post, we’ll be exploring the different ways how Make.com works and how best you can leverage it.

Setting Up Your Environment

The first place you will create your automation in Make.com is called a ‘scenario’. To start an automation, you need something that we’re going to call ‘the trigger’. The trigger is the catalyst for your scenario to launch the automation. The process is simple: Once you have defined your trigger, say a new event created in your Google Calendar, Make.com jumpstarts the automation. It’s easy as peasy!

Different Types of Triggers

There are different types of triggers you can use. ‘As-it-happens’ triggers monitor and wait for a certain action to happen, whereas ‘search’ triggers look for specific occurrences. We also have ‘create’, ‘update’, and ‘delete’ actions that can kickstart your automation. With Make.com, you can either set instant triggers or schedule runs, say every 15 minutes or so.

Connecting Your Accounts

Before you start, you need to allow Make.com by connecting it to your accounts through an API. For instance, while doing a Google Calendar automation, I logged into my Google account, allowed Make.com to access it, and voila, I was all set to start automating!

Let’s Try Out an Automation!

Let me take you through a simple automation: syncing Google Calendar events with Notion (a project management tool). Here, when a new event is created on my Google Calendar, Make.com triggers and adds the event to Notion. Yes, as simple as that! You can pretty much map all the details of the event from Google Calendar to Notion.

When you’re done with setting up your automations, you can set them to run overnight or during any fixed schedules, and they take care of the rest. That’s the beauty of automation!

Concluding Thoughts on User Experience with Make.com

I couldn’t stress enough on the convenience and time-saving power of automation! With tools like Make.com, automation is not only for tech wizards anymore. Everyone can use it to their advantage.
